The La Brea Tar Pits

The Famous Fishbowl Laboratory at the Page Museum |
Now for a word about the La Brea Tar Pits! In all
of our studies and excursions, we never hear about it! Why is it always left out? No one that worked at any of
the dinosaur museums we went to had ever heard about it. When we do a search for "dinosaurs" it doesn't come up on the
internet. All of those cute books about Dinosaurs in the stores never mention the Tar Pits when they talk about the
dinosaur museums, yet, 'The Page Museum' at the La Brea Tar Pits claim that they are "the largest and most diverse assemblage
of extinct Ice Age plants and animals in the world."
This is very interesting. I guess that the unbelievable thing about it is, it is hard for anyone to picture the largest
collection of Ice Age animals to be right in the heart of Los Angeles! Still, it is easy to understand that most of
their collection consists of Woolly Mammoths, Sabertooth Cats, Ground Sloths and Dire Wolves, and these are not the typical
dinosaur you learn about in school, or at least, not nearly as popular as the "Jurassic Park" type of dinosaur. I think
they should get more credit and recognition. I'm putting a few links to some of their sites here.
